Fresh Vibes Monday
Every Monday, we introduce and reintroduce you to artists in Africa and in the Diaspora who are doing great things within the world of
music. Our hopes are that with each 'fresh vibes',you
are better informed about these artists and
you go looking for their music.
There seems to be an increase in young people following the
acoustic path. A couple of these artists have been featured
on this site. Today, meet another emerging acoustic musician.
Meet Ese Peters!
Ese Peters is a Nigerian Singer-Songwriter and guitarist.
His music has been described as soft rock, pop and folk.
His lyrics come from experiences he has had with his family,
friends and his faith.
Ese started learning to play the guitar by himself when he
was twelve and wrote his first string of songs when he
was 16.
Ese attended the Universtity of Benin from 2004 to 2008
and earned a degree in Political Science.
Ese has mentioned John Mayer, Chris Okotie, Tracy chapman and
U2 as his strongest influences.A musical journey that started
in the year 2000 saw Ese play the role of lead guitaris
and vocalist for the Rock/Rnb group The A.G.E (apple of God's
eyes). Being the principal songwriter of the group helped in
polishing his Songwriting ability.
In 2005, Ese embarked on a solo career and started to play
gigs as a solo act in small venues in Lagos and supported
other established acts, contributing songs to movies and
writing songs for other artists.
"State Of The Heart", premiered in Catford Theatre in England.Take a Listen to Gone:He wrote the theme songs for a movie tiled
The movie was directed by award winning
actor Richard Mofe Damijo who personally requested that
se contribute songs for the project.
After being offered a recording contract in 2007 by a Nigeria's
biggest label at that time, he declined and rather decided to go
and conclude his studies.
Ese has worked as a songwriter with Cobhams Asuquo,
Richard Mofe Damijo, Onos Brisibi and has been privilleged to
share the stage with some prominent Nigerian acts.
Ese Peters is presently unsigned and is working on his
first solo album titled "Amplified Silence". It is an
independent effort
Take a listen to stay with me:
He also has a side-project called Ocean Blue, a pop/rock band
that consists of fellow singer/songwriter/guitarist
Peter Ayorinde. He performs with Ocean Blue in his spare time
and also has a long-standing songwriting partnership with his band mate.

So what do you think? A hit or miss? Also, why do you think there
seems to be an increase in artists going the acoustic route?
Is it the Asa influence or are they now more comfortable just being
themselves.
