It's time
Holding on to anger is like holding on to a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. Buddha
Ever listened to Erykah Badu's, 'bag lady'? Are you the bag lady? For those unfamiliar with this term, these are people who hang on to things because it gives them some form of comfort. We all have the potential to be bag ladies when we hang on to thing and let this eat into our brain, mind and heart space . Many are comforted by things that have hurt them.
Yes, that does not seem to make sense but yes, this is really the case. Ever spoken to a bitter person? Ever noticed how they talk? The venom they spit, the pain in their eyes as they talk about situations that have happened to them? Have you noticed the sort of blindness they seem to have about situations because it is affected by emotions? But, this post isn't really about bitterness but rather largely on things that we let take over.
This is simple common sense - but when you hold on to too many things - we do not let anything new come into that space. We don't let new experiences, new people or new opportunities in becasue we are stuck in the past, with no potential for growth or newness. Now, listen to me carefully, letting go of that anger or bitterness or depression or whatever you are holding on tight to isn't easy. Not at all. It takes time. Trust me on this, it is fine to take as much time as you can to be completely free but do realize that letting go is imperative for your growth.
Now. back to this beautiful quote by Budha - when you hold on to things from the past with the intent of harming that person that hurt you, please take note that YOU, will get hurt. You might get that chance to punish that person but YOUR destiny gets harmed. YOU have taken something from YOU.
So do some breathing exercises, find someone to talk to and most importantly pray about it.
